STRIP TEASE TO PLEASE
One of the hot dancers in the strip show at THE RANCH dazzles the crowd as he "works hard for the money."
  THE BARS

CLUB PACO PACO

This multi-level club is a true "entertainment complex" that offers several different environments -- something for everyone. This "out and proud" establishment is right on the main street going through the center of downtown, with a rainbow flag flying above the blue awning over the front entrance. The first level is the MAIN DISCO, a high-tech space with strobes, lasers and fog accompanying the pounding pop tunes and periodic transvestite shows. The cute waiters are very friendly and attentive, and the dance floor gets very crowded around midnight. Upstairs is a more mellow CANTINA with a jukebox and a pool table, and above that is the expansive ROOFTOP PATIO, where you can watch the brilliant stars or check out the action on the street below.

THE RANCH

Around the corner from PACO PACO'S is a show bar where the main attraction is the HOT, HOT stripper show two times a night. These macho dancers really know how to move and they show it all to a very appreciative crowd. Don't be shy about tipping!

LOS BALCONIES

One of the oldest gay bars in Puerto Vallarta has lately become one of the trendiest. Walk through the front door and up the narrow stairwell into a sophisticated dance hall that retains its Mexican hacienda ambiance with Spanish vases, creative artwork and intriguing wall pieces. "Los Balconies" means "the balconies," and there are a few balconies with tables overlooking the busy intersection below. The music is techno and the crowd is mostly young and hip Circuit Boyz. The occasional go-go muscle studs are nice eye candy.

ANTHROPOLOGY

A multi-level complex with the main room as a stylish lounge with an Aztec motif. This place is famous for super sexy male strippers performing every night beginning at 11:30 p.m. Before the strippers start, the place is a nice, quiet alternative to the loud, touristy crowds at Los Balconies and Club Paco Paco. There is also a basement disco open on weekends. But the strippers in the main room are the real attraction, so bring your dollars and enjoy the show!

LOS AMIGOS

Walk up the stairs to a Mexican cantina with a rainbow flair -- the best place in town to meet gay Mexican locals. The staff is ultra-friendly and the drink prices are the BEST in town. Open in the afternoon and early evening before the other bars get busy. Behind the bar you will find the jovial owner Arturo, who speaks English, Spanish and French.

FRIDA'S

A small, unassuming bar popular with the locals that is a tranquil, attitude-free zone for socializing and meeting people. It's named after Mexico's legendary artist diva Frida Kahlo.

GARBO'S

An upscale cocktail lounge with fabulous drinks, art-deco atmosphere, friendly service and occasional live music.

APACHE

A lesbian-owned Martini and Tapas Bar with a patio seating area on busy Olas Altas near the Gay Beach. Sample 20 different flavors of martinis ( and whatever else you want to drink ), plus creative snacks like peanut sauce chicken and garlic spinach dip.

DEWAYNE'S OASIS

A friendly, laid-back lounge with an expansive rooftop patio and a romantic garden courtyard. More of an older Levi-Leather crowd, but all are welcome. Their twice-weekly stripper shows start around 9 p.m., so they offer one of the earliest cheap thrills in town.

THE PALM

A clean, modern video bar and performance hall with a friendly, relaxed crowd of all ages. A variety of live entertainment -- drag queens, lounge singers, strippers, popular bands -- are the main draw here. A favorite with men and women.

MANANA

A classy gay dance club in a large Mexican hacienda setting. Walk into an enchantingly beautiful brick-and-stucco building filled with comfortable, cozy furniture and friendly, attentive waiters. There's a disco room with mirror balls and fog machines, a performance stage for the occasional drag shows, a romantic fireplace lounge to cuddle up with a new amor, and a large central open-air courtyard with patio furniture and a swimming pool. It's a welcome addition to the ever-expanding gay scene of Vallarta.

DESCANSO DEL SOL

The rooftop bar of this hotel has one of the best views in town of the beautiful Banderas Bay. After a day at the Gay Beach, everyone heads to this spot to grab a Happy Hour margarita and watch a golden sunset descend over the horizon. The friendly manager Lalo hosts the party with congenial flair.

BLUE CHAIRS BEACH CLUB RESTAURANT

The sand in front of the most popular gay hotel has a new second-story bar/restaurant overlooking the beach so you can watch the parade of flesh below while you eat and drink. The margaritas are decent and the Honey Chicken is divine!

OTHER GAY ACTIVITIES

Besides the Bars and the Beach, there are several other activities geared toward the gay crowd. Including:

(1) Gay Cruises that leave from the Los Muertos Pier just north of the Gay Beach.

(2) Gay Bingo, Gay Karaoke and Gay Movie Nights at various clubs in the gay area. Everyone wants to yell I-69 at Bingo -- even if they don't have it.

(3) A Gay Horseback Riding Tour that takes adventurers to picturesque trails in and around Vallarta.

(4) Paradise Beach, which is an isolated gay beach south of Puerto Vallarta where all the nudists and naturalists hang out in a tropical oasis with water sports and hiking trails.

(5) And don't forget the great selection of top-quality, gay-friendly restaurants to delight the palate of just about every picky eater. From seafood to beef and steak to Mexican specialities to pizza -- it's all here and it's all wonderful. So bring your appetite and try everything. Our favorite restaurants include Le Bistro, The Kit Kat, Cafe de Olla, Viejo Vallarta ( with its fabulous view of the downtown boardwalk ), El Dorado ( inexpensive seafood right on the beach ), Chili's ( only open from October to April ) and the fabulous Miguelito's ( with the giant tree in the lobby, you can't miss it ).
